Race Report 2015

After over 80 days at sea and at the mercy of the elements, all 26 teams in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge crossed the finished line in Antigua, completing the world’s toughest row.

And what a year it was. Among the courageous fleet were some world record-breakers: Ocean Reunion (UK) found themselves entering ocean rowing history by completing the fastest crossing in the history of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, rowing the Atlantic in 37 days and 9 hours. The majority completed the race between 43-53 days with the final team, Atlantic Endurance, arriving after 80 days at sea.

The 2015/2016 challenge also saw the youngest (Callum Gathercole) and oldest (Peter Smith) people to ever row any ocean.

The fleet of solo rowers, pairs and fours set out from the La Gomera, Canary Islands on the 20th of December 2015 and crossed 3,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean to arrive safely in Antigua, in the Caribbean, from January to March 2016. Pitting the teams against hurricanes, 40-foot waves, sharks, sleep deprivation and solitude, the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is considered to be one of the toughest voyages on the planet.
