Their Journey

We are a team of four ex Newcastle University students all extremely passionate about our adventure, taking the training and preparation very seriously. Whilst physical fitness is important this new adventure is without a doubt going to push our mental fitness to a whole new level!

Stuart Markland (London): A seasoned semi-professional football player from South London, Stuart played for the university football team whilst working towards his degree. Stuart is now a project manager for a high profile residential property in London.

James Timbs-Harrison (London): Captain of the university boat club squad, James had the opportunity to work towards trials after receiving the talented athlete scholarship whilst completing his MEng engineering degree at Newcastle University. James now works for Mitsubishi Electric.

Liam Browning (Fort William): is an experienced sailor with time spent sailing the Pacific.  Liam’s marine engineering masters experience has found him managing a commercial shipping company, utilising the Caladonian canal as a resource to reduce road traffic.

James Kendall (Bedfordshire): whilst completing his degree, James worked towards trials after receiving a talented athlete scholarship enabling him to consistently take the top spot during seat racing. He is now skippering pleasure boats around the Mediterranean.

Their Charity

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity making a daily difference to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis, and those who care for them.

Since they started in 1964 they have dedicated themselves to promoting excellence in research and clinical care, as well as providing practical support and advice to people with cystic fibrosis and their families.

They believe that everyone with cystic fibrosis deserves the best quality of life and real hope for the future, with access to high quality, specialist care.

To achieve their goal they fund research to better understand and treat cystic fibrosis, review standards of cystic fibrosis care, and provide information and advice to the cystic fibrosis community.
