Since graduating from Loughborough University, Dan (28) has worked for an innovative British start-up, Karbon Kinetics Ltd, the company behind the award-winning Gocycle electric bike. Growing up on the coast, Dan is no stranger to water, competing internationally in sailing and enjoying windsurfing among other watersports. Dan’s been lucky enough to share his passion for the sea by teaching and coaching others- from complete novices to having had the pleasure of working with the British Paralympic Sailing Team. Whilst a competent sailor, Dan had never rowed before taking on this challenge- but that shouldn’t be a problem… right?
On the completion of University at Loughborough, Olly undertook the charity driving challenge the Mongol rally, which has giving him the taste for worthwhile adventure. Following his 8000 mile round trip he joined the Army, spending the year of 2008-2009 at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He completed the All Arms Commando Course and deployed on Operations to Afghanistan within the Royal Engineers. He is now based up in Ripon North Yorkshire. A keen sportsman, Olly loves the outdoors and the chance to challenging himself.
As a Captain in the Royal Engineers, Olly has had several friends and colleagues injured on operations and has seen at first hand the support provided by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
Dan’s father Pip was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in February 2009, weeks after his 50th birthday. Pip is one of the lucky ones. After surgery and a lengthy recuperation, he has made a full recovery, but he and the family are indebted to the work of the charity- hence Dan’s desire to support a cause so close to their hearts.
