Stuart Connacher, Charl Gale & Wayne Johnson
Charl had the privilege of being involved in the 2015 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in assisting with the planning of a solo crossing of a lifelong friend from the logistics, boat build and then the eventual race. This year he’s taking part and, for him, this is a once in a lifetime experience to take to the max. The ocean has been part of his life since a child.
Stuart has had the privilege of growing up at the sea and enjoying all it has to offer; fishing, diving, surfing, but never any paddling or rowing! About 14 years ago a friend suggested he look up a race in which an old friend of his fathers was competing – the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. This will now be the third time he’s made the crossing – the first being a speed crossing and, most recently, as a soloist.
Wayne is a certified Yacht Master and captain and the ocean has been part of his life since childhood. For him, this crossing represents the pinnacle of team work, and tests the highest level of endurance, patience and mental fortitude of any sporting event in the world.
